Outdoors is the new indoors! In recent years, garden design trends have been leaning more and more towards creating a luxurious, welcoming feel on the lawn, deck or patio. A lot of people are now treating the garden as a sort of open-air second living room; accordingly, they want it to look just as good as their interiors do.
If you are thinking of revamping your outdoor space, here are 5 ideas to help you to achieve that cool, contemporary style you are going for:
1. Porcelain paving
Porcelain is an increasingly popular choice for paved areas. Because porcelain tiles are less porous than traditional stone pavers, they absorb far less moisture and therefore do not need to be sealed to prevent stains. These low-maintenance outdoor tiles are available in a huge variety of attractive designs, ranging from pristine white to bold, striking black; you can even get porcelain pavers that look just like stone or wood!
2. Grey decking
Adding a deck to your garden is a great way to get more out of the space. Tropical hardwood boards are undeniably appealing, but they require regular maintenance, which can be a pain. If you are looking for an alternative decking material that is lower-maintenance, kinder to the environment, and generally a bit more modern, grey composite decking may be right up your street- contemporary grey boards look very stylish, and composite wood decking (also known as WPC decking) requires less upkeep than hardwood decking.
3. Glass balustrades
If you do decide to build a deck, you may want to add a rail around the edge to finish it off and reduce the risk of someone falling off the deck and injuring themselves. Glass balustrading is a fashionable, contemporary alternative to wooden railing systems- and, as a bonus, glass would not obstruct your view while you are sitting out on the deck!
4. Modern outdoor furniture
Flimsy plastic patio chairs are so last century. These days, you can find all sorts of high-quality outdoor products that are chic enough to rival even your indoor furnishings! Get searching and you will be amazed by what you see- curvaceous rattan seats, deluxe outdoor dining sets, hanging egg chairs, luxurious weatherproof sofas, and much more!
5. Built-in lighting
What is better than a garden that makes you want to spend all day outside? A garden you can continue to enjoy at night! As with seating, outdoor lighting comes in all kinds of amazing designs and configurations nowadays; you could have LED lights built into your deck, planters that light up after dark, or add a floor lamp to your patio to really amp up that living-room feel. Get creative!
